Taylor and Grass!

Taylor Outside Spring 2011 015

It was finally nice enough (and there were no longer chemicals on the grass to kill the dandelions) for us to enjoy our grass!!  One of the things that I LOVE about Minnesota is the grass.  It is so soft, not itchy like down south so it is actually enjoyable to sit in the grass without a blanket.  Taylor was in a good mood and it was one of the most gorgeous days outside yesterday, so we had a little photo shoot!  Here is what we came up with.

As you can see, he was much more interested in the grass! I couldn’t

capture one of him looking at the camera!

He then, decided he was tired of sitting, so he stood

up for a while, just wiggling his toes in the grass.

Since he loves to sit now, he now loves to play in his little chair.  His little personality is shining through more and more each day!  I can’t wait for the beach to be around all the little ones and see how their personalities interact! It sure will by much easier now that he can sit by himself.  I am afraid he could be crawling by then though, which means so much for my peaceful week. But, maybe he will hold out until just after beach week.

A day of Milestone’s!

Today was a big day of milestone’s, at least in my perspective.  The day started off with Taylor sleeping for 12 hours, which was awfully nice to let his mommy sleep in!  After finally waking up, we made his usual 7 ounce bottle with a little bit of rice cereal.  Well, he wanted to have absolutely nothing to do with the bottle.  So, we experimented…

He tried awfully hard, and eventually made it work!  He was one happy camper.  I can’t believe that all he wanted was that sippy cup!  After the sippy cup was drained down, we practiced sitting up, which he is soo close to being able to do by himself.  He becomes slightly off balanced and tips over.  He prefers to stand, so it is hard to bend his little waist and have him sit at times.  We then practiced tummy time and he wanted a toy so bad, that he attempted to get his legs underneath him!  I was so surprised and I grabbed my camera to catch some of it on video, which is adorable.  He couldn’t quite figure it out, and would burry his head in the floor to try to get his legs underneath him.  It was the cutest thing, but I want to hold onto him being so tiny just a little bit longer!  He is growing so fast and such a happy baby!  I can’t get enough hugs and give him enough kisses.

Solid Foods

Like I promised, here goes the solid food experience…

A couple weeks ago, Taylor began to become extremely interested in the food that we were eating.  He would watch us pick it up with a fork, and follow the item, very intently, as we put it in our mouth.  He has been eating about 7-8 ounces of formula, so we thought, well we definitely aren’t upping his formula any more, so maybe we will give solids a try.  He is sitting rather well, so the pediatrician said go for it.  We started him off on rice cereal, and after a near choking experience that almost gave me a heart attack, he finally got it down.  Although, he wasn’t that big of a fan.  He liked the eating part, but the taste…well, these pictures say it all…

After about a week of the rice cereal, we decided to let him venture out and taste some new foods.  I chose carrots!  Let me tell you, those things look and smell gross!  At first, he wasn’t too sure about this weird taste in his mouth, but after a few spoonfuls, he loves them!  I let him play with the food, so he was a little messy, but the smile on his face is priceless.  It is so fun to see Taylor experience new textures and I can’t wait to start to see him become more curious.

Spring Storms

I know that I have fallen off the blog world lately, but our life has definitely been pretty crazy!  Being a mom, being a wife, and working unfortunately take up most of the time during the day, so not too much time to sit and write everything down.  I promise I will try to be better!  Taylor is growing up so fast and I just want to hold onto this moment forever when he is so little, but Casey always tells me, he has to grow up!

Now, to the point of this post!  Spring has finally arrived in Minnesota and with this season comes storms!  Casey and I have been through some hail storms before, but nothing like this!  We were sitting on the couch, and Taylor was sleeping upstairs when we started hearing “thumps.”  Casey asked, “Is Taylor waking up?”  It sounded weird, so we sat still for awhile and then I looked outside!  It was hailing!!  Not the tiny marble size hail either. Golf ball size!

We both jumped off the couch and ran to get our cars in the garage! We turned on the TV, and they said that we were under a tornado warning.  All of the neighbors were outside, just looking around to see if we could see anything.  Then, we decided to go inside for a bit, the weather was just getting a bit to weird.  The sky’s were green and it started raining and hailing.  When we were inside the tornado sirens went off, and that’s when Taylor woke up.  He knew something was going on!  Casey and I looked outside and the wind shifted.  Then, it was over.  As fast as al this crazy weather began, it just ended.  We saw our neighbor who has 911 dispatch on her phone running down the street, so we all went outside, curious of course to find out what she knew.  Well, This is what we saw…

That house is at the end of the block.  It is amazing what a tornado can do.  It was a 2 story house very similar to ours, and it just took the top of the garage clean off!  News reports state that the tornado touched down for 3 miles, they can see the tracks from the air.  Only 1 other house was damaged, and it was just their fence.  No one was injured thankfully, but a little too close for comfort if you ask me!  Give me a hurricane any day of the week!

I hope that everyone else is enjoying their spring, I know we are going outside when there aren’t tornado’s!  We are excited for the beach and can’t wait to meet all the new babies, well probably only 1 by then, but to see everyone will be great.  I promise later tonight I will post about Taylor’s first encounter with solid foods.

Until next time…
